  1. Lindy from Rosedale Street Gallery – Dulwich Hills (Lindy and Leonard Smith) tells me that they have closed the gallery. Cheers,
    Vicki

  2. Clay Art Benowa is a Gallery under the arm of the Gold Coast Potters’ Assoc Inc. It is situated at the Potters’ Place, Cnr. ashmore Road & Carrara Stree, Benowa, Gold Coast, Qld. It is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am till 4 pm. Check out the Gold Coast Potters’ website for news of events at the Gallery.

  3. ronin gibson in sydney often shows pottery. i bought a marvelous stephen bowers flat dish from him some years ago.

  4. Very useful list Judith – thank you. When we moved to Sydney in 1989, there was a potters gallery run by a group of ladies in Crows Nest. I believe it had previously been located in the Eastern Suburbs. Any idea what became of that gallery? The quality of the work was impressive and we bought some really beautiful pieces there.

    1. This was The Potters’ Gallery – the showroom/gallery and offices of the Potters’ Society of Australia at 68 Alexander Street, Crows Nest. The Potters’ Gallery first opened in 1971 at 97a Bourke Street, Woolloomooloo with the help of a cultural grant from the NSW government. In 1976, the society moved to a terrace building at 48-50 Burton Street, Darlinghurst. The move to Crows Nest took place in 1989 after the Darlinghurst building was sold to make room for a high-rise. Sadly, the gallery only lasted in its Crows Nest location until 1991. Since then the Society has been holding exhibitions every two years at the Manly Art Gallery and Museum but has had no permanent shop front.

  5. I recently visited Outre Gallery in Melbourne and bought a Betty McLaren “Show Pony”, it is exquisite and first in a collection (I hope). Her husband, Gus, and Reg Preston started their pottery in Warrandyte in North East Melbourne. Gus passed away in 2008 and Betty (now in her 80’s) continues to use the moulds created by Gus and hand finishes the beautiful detail on her pieces.
    Robyn.

  6. I’ve just updated all the gallery links. Clay Art Benowa has closed but the Gold Coast Potters’ Association now exhibits at the Old Benalla Post Office Gallery. I have removed All Hand Made Gallery and Stokers’ Siding Pottery as they are now closed. I can’t find websites any more for Artisan Gallery Robigana, the Marianne Newman Gallery, the Perth Galleries or Springmount Pottery but have relinked to directory entries until it is confirmed (or not) that they have closed. Raglan Gallery Cooma, The Strathnairn Arts Association and Craft Victoria have changed their website addresses but are still there.

    1. Hi Leigh, the galleries on this page are retail outlets that represent a range of artists. However, I see that there is not yet an entry for Alexandra Copeland on Australian Potters’ Marks so I will add one shortly with bookmarks to this gallery and other resources.
