NSW Government to no longer fund TAFE fine arts courses

From  1 January 2013 the NSW Government will no longer fund TAFE fine arts courses. These will now be offered at commercial rates. Only fine arts courses in the NSW TAFE system have had their funding withdrawn, with the reason given that these courses “while valued by the community, are areas of low employment growth” (Media Release, 12 September 2012).   In Victoria, where the government has also cut funding to fine arts courses, the cost of a two-year diploma can range from $13,000 to $26,000.  A petition to the NSW Government is available for signing if you would like to express your dismay at this news.
