Getting ready

Ellis Ceramics. Coffee set

I took this photo for our new business card. It features an Ellis coffee set against the backdrop of the Bemboka section of the South East National Park, aka the view from our north-facing deck.

Around 300 Ellis pieces will be featured in the new exhibition with a wide range of work by other commercial makers, many of them also immigrants from Europe. Also included will be work by members of the Potters’ Cottage at Warrandyte and the extended Boyd family. Half artist potters, half commercial potteries, they produced functional and decorative ware for the same post-war market as the larger factory outlets.

Suddenly it is less than four weeks until our opening on 30 September, so I am busy finalising what will be on display between bouts of mowing, pruning, mulching, watering and generally preparing the garden so that it will look its best on the day.

  1. Great photo. I am on the far North Coast (Clarence Valley) and your gallery is on the far south Coast. I hope to get to see that beautiful view and your gallery one day. I was from Nowra before heading north so maybe on one of my trips down there I could visit some galleries way down south.
